Bedtime Comes Eventually – #40Days40Dads

Hayden

Today’s installment of the #40Days40Dads project comes from a land down under, where Hayden is a stay-at-home father to five children–the latest of which just joined the family a couple weeks ago! Thanks for finding the time to participate, Hayden!

#17: Hayden

Hayden is the father of four daughters–ages 5, 4, 3, and 3 weeks, and one son–age 1. As his blog’s tagline states, “We’re not a zoo, dammit!”

What was the moment when you first felt like a father?

First solo nappy change.

What’s your favorite part about being a father?

Being able to reflect on the world as a new experience from their perspective…And bedtime. No matter how bad your day is, it comes eventually.

What’s the hardest part about being a father?

So many girls = too many emotions.

What’s the dumbest/funniest thing that your kid has cried about or fought with you over?

I had an hour-long argument with my 2-year-old about how bacon is better than vegemite1…We were both on the side of bacon but she still wanted to argue.

What are you most proud of having taught/shared with your kids or what are you most looking forward to teaching/sharing with them?

My kids are into Marvel super heroes. They don’t know their friends’ names, but they can list most of the Marvel Universe.

What’s your favorite thing about your kids?

At least one of them likes me at any one time.

If you could go back in time and give yourself a piece of advice when you first became a father, what would you say?

Enjoy them while they’re still. Once they move, you’re in for a world of pain.

Any other comments to share on fatherhood?

Check my blog out, I am quite honest and spare no detail in all aspects of my parenting.

If you’re a father or you know a father who would like to share his story, send him to this link to answer the questions. Stay tuned for another dad’s crib notes tomorrow!
