Today’s\u00a0#40Days40Dads project<\/a>\u00a0entry comes from my colleague Tony, who offers a hilariously sleep-deprived glimpse into life with his two daughters. Thanks, Tony!<\/p>\n

#35:\u00a0Tony<\/h2>\n

Tony\u00a0is the father of a 7-year-old daughter and 14-month-old daughter.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What was the moment when you first felt like a father?<\/strong><\/p>\n

After about 3 weeks of sleep deprivation, you come out of the shock of the baby having arrived and realize that this is really happening.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

What’s your favorite part about being a father?<\/strong><\/p>\n

They both get so excited when I walk into the house at the end of the day. Seeing them enthusiastically take on new experiences. Realizing that my older daughter is developing a good sense of humor.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

What’s the hardest part about being a father?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lack of sleep. Your time is no longer your own. It’s so easy to pass on your less admirable traits, like stubbornness and rapidly spiking irrational anger.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

What’s the dumbest\/funniest thing that your kid has cried about or fought with you over?<\/strong><\/p>\n

With my older one, probably that she wanted to make her own PB&J but didn’t bother to tell me. With the younger one, it’s always the same: whether or not she is allowed to eat\/ destroy anything she finds on the ground, including the cat.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

What are you most proud of having taught\/shared with your kids or what are you most looking forward to teaching\/sharing with them?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Jokes of both knock-knock and non-knock-knock variety. How to use tools. Comic books and good cartoons.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

What’s your favorite thing about your kids?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Their joie de vivre. They call it that too. They are very sophisticated.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

If you could go back in time and give yourself a piece of advice when you first became a father, what would you say?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

There’s always money in the banana stand. That and try to support your wife as much as possible, including making sure she gets time off and out of the house without kids.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Any other comments to share on fatherhood?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The work isn’t that hard, it’s just constant. You are constantly trying to stop their attempts to hurtle towards death. Also, their baby nails are like tiny Wolverine claws. Seriously, they can slice your eyeball if you aren’t careful. That is not a joke.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
